I attended Starry Night, the 519’s Toronto Pride Kick-Off Event and it was beyond fabulous!
This year’s theme was ‘Love is in the Hair’ and was it ever! Many Torontonians came in their best wig or at least a great hair do to celebrate Pride Week.
This is the 519’s sixth consecutive year hosting Starry Night and it has become a can’t-miss fundraiser. The event itself is free but all of the bar sales and donations from the 3,000 guests go directly to support the year-round community programming at the 519.
There were a lot of amazing performers one being, Jinkx Monsoon, the recent winner of Season 5 RuPaul’s Drag Race doing her first Canadian performance.
The 519 is a public-private partnership with the City of Toronto, the center works in partnership with the donors, sponsors and the community to help and support the needs of the locals and the LGBTO community. Last year 50,000 people made over 200,000 visits to the 519 for their different programs to volunteer and celebrate together as a community.
The 519 did another great job this year and is helping a lot of people in Toronto. Thank you, 519 for doing so much for our community!
