The opportunity to travel with a company that cares to make your experience unforgettable, is one I will never say no to. GM flew a selected group out to Calgary, Alberta to experience the Buick Envision with two full days of driving through the open landscape that make up the Canadian Rockies.
In true GM fashion, we stayed at a place unlike any other- Azuridge, a home, turned hotel built and previously owned by the man who invented the cubicle- cool right? We drove through the mountainous hillside to Azuridge located atop of the hillside with views that can only be described as breathtaking and on our way up to the hotel, we saw a moose – you can’t get any better than that.
After exploring our rooms that looked out to the mountains (a view I could never get tired of), we were hosted to an amazing lunch by the Buick team where I saw some familiar faces and got to catch up. I, (having slept VERY little) wanted coffee desperately and after our lunch, I was told that there was a coffee shop on route to one of the two planned destinations. Our first stop was at The Leighton Art Centre– a centre built in honour of Alfred Crocker (A.C) Leighton, an artist who moved out to Alberta and built this centre where he and his wife painted. This, (pictured above) was the view from the centre.
From there, my driving partner, Karen (how ironic) and I traded spots and using the Buick Envisions’ incredible Navigation system that was pre-programmed, we headed to the next spot- the world famous Longview Jerky Spot located in Priddis Alberta. In fact, Alberta is Canada’s largest beef producing province so we couldn’t leave without trying a native staple (Thanks Buick!) With no luck for coffee, we found better- a sweet treat. My favourite (and coincidentally also Karen’s) mint chocolate chip ice cream.
After an amazing drive back home (where we caught this unreal sunset), we headed back to our hotel and learned how to make SUSHI! Ok… I have to admit, it is MUCH harder than it looks but it was so much fun learning as people cheered you on (even if I did it wrong).
I slept like a baby (the babies that sleep through the night) and woke up excited for another day and another adventure with Buick- they literally had every minute planned. With the ability to drive the Buick Envision from place to place, exploring the Canadian Rockies at our leisure, we were able to experience the car and it’s features, like On Star, and Wifi at our pace.
I headed to the Soma spa with Tiffany for hammam and massages and some much needed R&R. Hammam, a Turkish cleansing ritual uses sea salt scrubs and a combination of warm and cold water to rid of dead skin while increasing blood circulation and rejuvenating your senses- it felt amazing.
Tiffany, a Calgary native suggested that we explore a little more before my flight (to which I obviously said yes) and brought me here- to the Wonderland Sculpture, a piece created by a Barcelona- based designer- Jaume Plensa located outside of the bow building. How cool?
I had two amazing days and got to explore a terrain unknown and made comfortable with the Buick Envision
