Is Valentine’s Day a little overrated? A little commercialized? A little too “corporations trying to make money off of another holiday”? I think so, but it’s also one of my favourite days of the year. I can’t think of a better way to spend a day, any day, than 100% focusing your energy on celebrating love. Sometimes we don’t take the time to appreciate the people in our lives that matter, and Valentine’s Day forces us to stop and pay attention.
This year, try to spend some quality time with the people you love; be it your best friend, boyfriend or girlfriend, it’s about sharing an experience and spending time together. See below for my favourite places in the city to spend that quality time! What do you usually do on Valentine’s Day? Let us know in the comments.
Get the heart pumping…
Nothing bonds two people quite like the fear of possibly falling to your death, right (however imagined it may be)? At Basecamp Climbing, $37 gets you a full day pass and all of the climbing equipment you need. It’s a challenge that’s fun to face together, and they even have a cute little coffee shop attached, so you can sneak away and take a break if need be. So strap in, and get to climbing.

Polish yourself up…
When you’re lookin’ good, you’re feelin’ good. And when you’re feelin’ good, everything goes your way (am I alone in thinking this?). So to get the good feelings going, head to Buffer Nails & Waxing; they have a little something for everyone, from skin treatments, to waxing, to manis and pedis. You and your best friend sitting and getting your nails done? Amazing. You and your boyfriend getting your pores unclogged together? I can’t think of anything more romantic. When you go, ask for Kim Ly to do your nails! You know in Legally Blonde where she becomes best friends with her nail artist? Kim is everyone’s automatic best friend, and drops real life advice on you real fast.

Get your glam on…
Elmwood Spa is a hidden gem right in the core of downtown. From the second you walk in, you feel totally welcome and pampered. The water therapy rooms are beautiful, and your only regret will be that you can’t stay there all day. I recommend the LI’TYA couples massage; it combines holistic Australian rituals with a standard massage, and leaves you feeling totally relaxed. They also put this intense hair mask on you (so if you’re planning on going out after, this may not be the massage for you) and it left my hair smoother and more beautiful than I’ve ever seen. Seriously, I couldn’t believe it. Before or after (I opted for the full hair mask), check out the adjoining restaurant; Bangkok Garden! Some amazing Thai food awaits you.
From the Coco & Cowe team, happy Valentine’s Day! We hope that however you spend the day, it’s filled with love. Speaking of, what are your plans?
