How To Transform Your Skin From Within

By Kiersten Barbara

I’ll be the first one to admit it: the entire game of beauty and skincare products have totally taken over my social feed (and not to mention my bank account, too). I used to be a sucker for any product that promised anything to do with delivering clear, glowing skin until I really started digging deeper and researching why my adult acne (which was hormonal) was never disappearing regardless of how I was eating or what top-of-the-line-serum I was applying. In the last year, I’ve cleared up my acne and achieved the #SkinGoals I always remember having, all by shifting my focus on the vitamins and supplements I was putting into my body as opposed to what I was putting on it. I’ve learned beauty starts within and more specifically, within the gut. So, what I’m really trying to say here is… the next time you’re in need of a skin boost, skip Sephora and take a look into some of my favourite vitamins and supplements that have transformed my skin from within.

Zinc

It may surprise you, but zinc is found naturally in a lot of the foods we eat such as pumpkin seeds, beets, spinach and more! So not only can you easily add it to your diet, it’s actually been proven that individuals that suffer from acne have lower levels of zinc in their system. This fundamental mineral plays a huge part in cell regrowth and division, which really means it helps with speeding up the time it takes your cells’ development to achieve clear skin. Here I’ve linked the specific brand of the vitamin I take!

Probiotics

Like I’ve mentioned, your skin is a direct representation of your gut’s health. When I started introducing probiotics to my body such as these gut shots along with a shot of apple cider vinegar everyday, it was then that I started to notice not only a change within my energy levels and overall mood, but my skin was already clearing up and evening in skin tone. Probiotics are fundamental to your overall health, and a game changer when it comes to your gut, and by extension your skin! Both shots are great examples of whole food sources of probiotics, which translates into the allowance of natural growth of good bacteria from the food that you’re eating.

The Beauty Chef

One of my absolute favourites is an Australian organic supplement brand called The Beauty Chef. Containing 24 organic, bio- fermented and probiotic super-foods (including lentils, chickpeas, and brown rice, which are awesome proteins for the skin!). These natural supplements can be added to your morning smoothies, cereal or even just water! Check out more from The Beauty Chef here.

Maca Root Powder

Maca is basically a raw nutritional powerhouse. It is considered very beneficial for balancing hormones due to its high content of amino acids which play a major part in hormones in general, which we also know often translates to the root of our blemishes. By simply working on balancing your hormones with natural herbs and vitamins such as maca, I promise you’ll see a world of a difference in your skin’s clarity. There are multiple ways you can incorporate the root powder into your daily regimen, although personally I prefer capsules! Check them out here.

So, did I make you rethink your next trip to Sephora? (I’m really, really hoping I did!) Also, I’m always wanting to learn about what vitamins and supplements you’re taking that are totally changing your #SkinGame. Let me know in the comments!

xx,

Kiersten
