TOMS Eyewear at PROJECT
TOMS was famously set up with the intention of creating a brand based on the One for One motto; for every pair of TOMS shoes you buy, they will give a child in need of shoes a new pair of their own. Since the brand has garnered a crazy amount of attention and success for their ability to marry a capitalist model with a philanthropic mission they have decided to take it one step further, to bring sight to those who can’t see.
I had a chat with Allison from TOMS and she gave me the lowdown infused with such passion that only a person working for more than just another fashion brand could have. She explained the process and history of the idea in detail but to just give you the gist, for every pair of glasses that you purchase, TOMS will help give sight to someone in need.
The line made its debut last year and this year they have added a slew of new colours and styles.
I personally dig the Classic 201 in tortoise
I couldn’t imagine much worse than loosing my sight. Knowing that there is a way to intervene and stop millions from blindness and that TOMS has taken up the challenge of making it happen is commendable and should be celebrated and supported.
How cool would it be if every company had a social conscience?
