Women of Style: Courtne Smith

A few weeks ago, searching for inspiration on the net, I came across a blog called Queen Shmink.  As I navigated the site, I realized that I recognized Courtne- the fashionista behind the Queen Shmink brand- as we both used to frequent the same hair salon.

Ever since that day, I’ve been checking her daily style entries; my inner hippie has fallen in lust with her 70’s boho haute hippie style and her love of bright, beautiful colours.

1) Where did you grow up?

Toronto! I’ve lived in a few different areas of the city growing up. As much as I want to pack up and leave sometimes it’s so hard!

2) How would you describe your style?

I love any fashion from the 70’s. I’m all about turbans, jumpsuits, wide-legs and gold! I also find I dress a bit mature for my age sometimes…anything glamorous is definitely my style.

3) Your go-to brands and why?

Missoni – I love the textures, colors and designs. I try to incorporate one Missoni item in every outfit! I will be buried in Missoni.

Zara – Fashion-forward pieces at affordable prices.

Bar III – One of Macy’s fabulous lines. I can always find a few pieces that are on trend at great prices!

H&M – I’m sure we can all agree on this one for the same reasons…

Alexis – Great wide-leg silk pants in awesome prints.

4) Your favourite wardrobe piece and why?

Vintage Fur Collar – Throwing one of these on just makes me feel super glamorous.

Missoni Headbands – Perfect accessory for bad hair days!

YSL Ring – A gold ring with a large purple Swarovski crystal. It makes me happy.

Miu Miu Pouch – My pink croc printed pouch is a lifesaver! It acts as a wallet, a pouch and clutch!

5) The beauty product you can’t live without?

Nail Polish! I love looking down at my hands and seeing a fun pop of color!

6) A beauty secret your mom or grandmother told you that you use?

More a fashion secret, but ever since I can remember my mom has always been telling me (or yelling) “COURTNE! SHOULDERS BACK!”

As I get older, the more I realize how important this is (especially if you want to look your best in fancy clothes). I still do the lazy slouch, but now I’ll notice and bring my shoulders back.
