Last Tuesday night I traveled to The Bronx, NY, to the famed Paradise Theatre to check out the latest installment of Unstaged by American Express featuring The Killers. And from my Twitter feed and Instagram you will know, I pretty much had the time of my life.
Brandon Flowers was an incredible performer and had the crowd on their feet for the entire two-hour show singing all of my favorites (Mr. Brightside, When You Were Young, Read My Mind, Human….) and a few new ones, which have piqued my interest in their new album, Battle Born.
Despite the fact that I’m almost positive that the air conditioning wasn’t working and the balcony we sat on rumbled along with the audience’s jumps and gyrations (definitely added to the excitement of the concert), it was truly one to remember.
Like Unstaged events of the past, the 11th installment was held in a magical, storied theatre. The Paradise opened its doors in September of 1929 and was one of the largest movie houses in the US. Painted ceilings, mythical statues and gargoyles adorn its walls and ceilings; which is one of the last of its kind.
The surroundings made seeing The Killers perform live, even more magical.
During the performance I noticed cameras everywhere, from the stage to the ceiling to a box being passed around over the heads of concert revelers in the crowd; all there to capture every moment for the viewers at home, as directed by award-winning director Werner Herzog. And although it was amazing to be there live, I can imagine it would be just as good to watch it streamed live on your home computer, you wouldn’t miss a thing!
American Express works hard to bring one of a kind experiences to all of their Cardmembers and Unstaged is just another shining example. Have an Amex Card? Get access to presale tickets to unique shows like this. Pretty sweet.
