Travel Tuesday: The Most Magical Places I Have Ever Visited, #1

I love to travel as much as I can and I have been lucky enough to visit some pretty amazing places. Instead of writing about 3 of my favorite trips or countries I thought I would write about 3 of the most magical places I have ever visited.

The first one (and they are not in any particular order) is Ngorongoro Crater Game Park   just west of Arusha in Tanzania, East Africa.

Ngorongoro Crater is a collapsed dormant volcano and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  It is home to over 25,000 animals and is reputedly the highest density of mammalian predators in Africa.

You get a permit to drive into the crater (driving down into the crater is really fun!) for 6 hours and within that time you can drive around the whole of the crater and see just about every animal you could imagine!

Be careful not to prop yourself to far out of your safari jeep (as I did to get a good photo) you don’t want to land on an animal and end up being their lunch!

Another thing that is great about Ngorongoro Crater and the surrounding area is meeting with and staying with the Masai tribes.  That is really the reason why I decided to visit East Africa a couple of years ago was to meet the Masai people.  I find their culture so interesting and a real pure and raw way of living off of the land.

While I was in East Africa I camped out every night and meet 5 different Masia tribes.  What originally inspired me to go meet the Masai people was after reading the book/seeing the movie ‘The White Masia’ based on a true story about a western woman visiting East Africa and falling in love with a Masai worrier, one of my all time favorite books and movies.

Stay tuned for next week when I tell you about the second magical place, Varanasi, India.

Cheers,

Tara
