Yesterday after a minor calamity my day was not off to the best start. I was super frustrated and took a walk. I ended up at the florist down the street thinking that some flowers would cheer me up. That and some deep breathing did the trick, but while I was in there I couldn’t help but notice how busy this usually peaceful flower shop was. Extra staff was on hand and everyone was running around. There was also an overwhelming number of men frantically overspending on arrangements for Valentine’s Day.
Never one to admit that a day of love could be contrived, it took sitting in the middle of it to realize its hilarity. I got to thinking that although it’s a nice thought to have a day to remind you of all the reasons why you’re in love, it would be even nicer to not have to have it.
I also thought about how this particular holiday makes single people feel. No bueno.
So why not, on this national day of love, do we take the time to spread some love?! Compliment a stranger. Hug someone who needs one. Call a friend you’ve been avoiding. Spread a little love. Do something for YOU!
