While visiting Australia I was lucky enough to go visit beautiful Melbourne and my amazing friends that live there. When I heard that it’s the fashion capital of Australia I couldn’t resist. Plus it’s only an hour flight from Sydney and I figured I’d already traveled what felt like a lifetime, what’s another hour?
I had been told by Australian friends who have visited me in Toronto that Melbourne has a Toronto like vibe and they couldn’t be more right. A great city to get lost in; it has amazing shopping, restaurants and these little fun lane ways that are ‘no car zones’. There’s a night market every Monday and Wednesday offering food from around the world, local art, jewelry and clothing.
St. Kilda Beach is a must visit. It’s conveniently located in the city so it’s accessible and beyond gorgeous.
While visiting Melbourne my friends took me about 45mins outside of Melbourne to see kangaroos in the wild in the Australian bush! It was amazing to see these animals in their natural habitat.
Later that day my friends took me to a place called Ballarat which is about 1.5 hours outside of Melbourne to the Ballarat Wildlife park where I was able to feed friendly and hungry kangaroos and where we were able to go into a koala habitat and meet 4 adorable koalas. It was really an amazing day!
Another great day trip my friends took me on (and I would highly recommend) is the Great Ocean Road drive to see the Twelve Apostles. And no, it’s not a long drive to church. The Twelve Apostles are a collection of massive limestone stacks just off the shoreline. The drive was out of this world.
I would highly recommend visiting Melbourne. I, for one, can’t wait to get back!
If you have been to Melbourne or are planning on going let us know in a comment.

Yay !! Amazing job 🙂 Cant wait for you to come back
I just returned from Melbourne! It’s my favorite place in Australia so far. Loved running at Albert Park and St Kilda and the culinary scene is amazing. Wish it was not so far (I live in Washington DC)! here’s my blog post on it: http://www.repatriationadventures.com/2013/05/australian-adventures-discovering.html
