The Emmy Awards on Sunday night were full of laughter, tears, musical numbers, wicked dancing, and of course, enviable red carpet looks. There were many gorgeous gowns to swoon over, while others were definitely questionable. Here are the top trends from the night.
1. Black and White:
Black and white has been a dominating trend since the summer and there are no signs of this colour combo slowing down. I’m usually all about the colour, but there’s something about black and white that’s classic, simple and chic, especially on the red carpet. Celebs like Elisabeth Moss, Julianna Margulies, and Anna Gunn (although more black and powder pink) pulled off this trend effortlessly.
2. Powder Pink:
Another winning look of the night was powder pink, one of my favourite fall colour trends. It’s a refreshing hue amidst the usual darker palette and the celebs that donned this trend were undoubtedly pretty in pink. I loved Rose Byrne’s simple and minimalist Calvin Klein dress, with a little peek at her tight abs. Julie Bowen also did powder pink proud in a Zac Posen gown, and Cobie Smulders glowed in a satin J. Mendel dress.
3. Peek-a-Boo Legs:
Julianne Hough, Leslie Mann, and Lena Headley sure knew how to make a statement as they showed off their legs in dresses with see-through bottoms. Although these were not my favourite looks from the night, this trend was certainly bold, daring and different.
4. Royal Purple:
This deep purple reigned supreme on the red carpet from Carrie Underwood in Romona Keveza, to Alyson Hannigan in Marchesa, to Melissa Rauch in Rubin Singer. It’s a beautiful colour for fall and looks royally good on everyone.
5. Cobalt Blue:
Another big colour trend of the night was the classic cobalt blue. Tina Fey stunned in a low-cut Narcisco Rodriguez dress that accentuated her curves. Allison Williams also rocked this gorgeous blue hue in a simple and chic Ralph Lauren dress, and Rocsi Diaz wore this hue in a Michael Costello mermaid gown.
