Are Smartphones Ruining Our Ability To Communicate?

Face-to-face communication seems like a thing of the past. As technology evolves, at times, I truly believe that it does more harm than good. For instance, one morning I walked into the elevator of my building where 3 adults stood quietly, aggressively typing into their cell phones. I happily said, “Good morning” but my words fell on deaf ears. I said it one more time with a bit of attitude in my tone only this time 2 out of the 3 individuals acknowledged my gesture. Well… not really. They kind of popped their head up and gave me a half smirk, wave and then went back to typing. It’s evident that many people have lost the ability to hold a conversation or even take interest in having one for that matter.

When I came across this video called I Forgot My Phone (Written by Starring Charlene deGuzman / Directed by Miles Crawford) it was a total reality check for me and I’m sure it will be for you too. Don’t get me wrong, I like my S3 and all that it’s capable of, but I appreciate my relationships and life’s simple pleasures a lot more. Let this be a little encouragement for us to pay more attention to our surroundings and live in the moment.

Peace & Love,
