Simple strategies to help promote your brand, idea & products


Back in December, I taught you how to develop and grow your personal brand, in January, I taught you how to become a savvy Side Hustler, and today I am super excited to share some of my proven strategies to help promote your big ideas and products. In such a competitive market, promotion and marketing is important. Creativity flows through the veins of many people and now more than ever our generation is pursuing entrepreneurship and exploring new avenues to create more cash flow. Everyone and their mama has something to say or sell, but if you read Michael Hyatt’s Platform and combine it with my advice, you will easily separate yourself from the rest of the pack. If you are successful, the benefits include an increase in sales, high quality leads, more website traffic and so forth. Here are some simple promo ideas that are essential.


1. Client testimonials

Feedback from clients go a very long way for two reasons: It tells you what the consumer likes and dislikes about your product or service and (if you receive a positive testimonial) also echoes as an endorsement which will grab the attention of potential clients. No matter how visually appealing your website may be, it is the client testimonials that will ultimately determine the future success of your business

2. Seduce me with something free
Well.. not me, but whomever your target market is. A pre-launch is a great way of accomplishing this. For example, before the release of my new hot fiction novel, Everything I Couldn’t Tell My Mother, I provided my audience with a free 4-chapter download just to tease them a little. Not only did this strategy increase my mailing list opt-ins but it spread awareness about the book and my brand significantly. My official launch is this Saturday and it’s been sold out for at least 3 weeks. Seducing my readers months ago was a power move that helped push my product.

3. Create an affiliate program
Have people who are interested in your product or service do some promotion for a commission for referrals that result in a sale. This will expand your reach for sure.

4. Call in a favor
THIS is why it’s so important to network your butt off both in and out of the office. If you have friends in high places, or if you know a friend of a friend who knows someone, you are golden. Just make sure you are prepared and ready to go when an opportunity arises to strut your stuff. For example, my mentor/TV Host/Author/Journalist/Photographer Shannon Boodram helped get me on MTV Canada, my friend/TV Host/TV Producer Sheldon Neil helped get me on Global TV, my publicist Sandra Gabriel helped get me on Rogers TV on four occasions and the opportunities go on and on. I have to give credit where credit is due. Trust me, favors come in handy, especially if you have a business, but always keep in mind that one day someone may call on you as well and remember to pay the goodness forward.

5. Create a promotional video
You need a creative visual that is educational, emotional and entertaining. If that sh*t goes viral, Ka-Boom! Well you’ve seen time and time again what can happen if the visuals are on point. Your audience will not be able to get enough and will share it on their social media networks. Again, free promo.

6. Host events in your city

Whether a pre-launch, a launch, a thank-you party, film screening, workshop, it’s a smart move, because not only are you promoting your product or service, but you will have the chance to actually meet and greet your customer and listen to their feedback, concerns and questions. Connecting on an emotional level will create customer loyalty which is priceless

7. Rock the hell out of social media

I will be extremely surprised if you are not already doing this. If you aren’t, drop everything you are doing and get started. This is not even optional. No, really. I’m serious.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. By far, my favorite point! You’d think it was obvious, but girrrrrrrrrrrrrl let me tell you. The struggle out there is real. Let me say this, it is absolutely worth the investment to upgrade your website so that you can attract more traffic. Whether it may be changing your brand colors, creating better quality content on your blog, renovating your online store, adding cool video content, or even taking down your website and starting over, if it is necessary, then DO IT. Look at the personalities, bloggers, and brands you admire and take notes. Ask yourself, what keeps you coming back for more goodness? How does the brand color scheme make you feel? Why is the website star quality?
