Saturday marked the first official day of summer which means it’s time to say goodbye to the subtly of Spring and say hello to bold brights! That’s right, there’s no better time to get a little colour in your life than summer, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite bold lipstick shades with the hopes of encouraging you to try something new and if you’re a seasoned colour vet, maybe you’ll share your favorite shades with me in the comment section?

NARS, Red Square: Don’t let the name deceive you, this velvet matte lip pencil is more of a ‘ burnt orange’ than a red but it’s just the right summery shade for so many complexions. I am literally obsessed with the matte lip pencils from NARS because they’re matte without being super drying so I was very excited when I found this colour.
This Chubby Stick is light and moisturizing but – like the name indicates – packs a seriously colourful punch. I love the consistency of this guy, perfect to team up with a fresh, dewy face.
And, we’re back to matte. Clearly obsessed. This vibrant plum colour is a summer version of the winter purples we all fell so in love with and it looks great on so many skin tones.
Next to Ruby Woo (MAC) and Dragon Girl (NARS) this colour is my ultimate. It’s electric pink in the best kind of way and just totally pops when you have that nice sun kissed glow. (This pic does not do it justice by the way.)
And finally what I like to refer to as my ‘summer red’. A little more vibrant, a little more fresh, a little of a blue undertone and a little more of a pink – but still matte and magical. Just the way I like it.

I’m loving the flat out fabulous by mac you’ve got on there!! My summer tip that I’ve seen all over the place in recent times and that actually works: using a t-shirt instead of the old towel to dry your hair to reduce frizz.
I’ve heard great things about the Nars lipsticks. Totally on my list!
I love my mineral powder all year round but in the summer especially, it keeps my oily skin in check. Put it on the eyelids to keep the eyeliner fresh too! It’s a friend of mine’s company, and homegrown here in Canada (Mississauga to be exact) – Urban Minerals powder, my shade is called Radiant, and it keeps me feeling that way even in the hot sun!
Also love my Mac slim shine lipstick in Urgent. Very fun and bright shade, and moisturizing!
Loving the Flat Out Fabulous by MAC! It’s my go to lip colour this summer!
Candy Yum Yum hands down! Matte lip colours like this one can be drying so I always make sure to exfoliate and moisturize my lips before applying. Oh and FYI layering it over red gives you an awesome pinky-red (similar to MAC’s All Fired Up)!
Awesome picks!!! Love bold summer lips & your cute pics
My fav is an oldie but a goodie MAC St Germain and I just found a great bright pink gloss from H&M in Bubblegum Pink
I’m liking the MAC Relentlessly Red! Looking forward to also trying Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow bronzer/blush
Ohhh, love your lippy choices! I also like a matte lip for the warmer months, it looks so fresh. Hmm, I have many Summer faves but recently I’ve been reaching for MAC’s “Morning Rose” (subtle nudish rose) or going completely opposite with Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet in “Le Favourite”, a bright but soft matte coral. My fave Summer tip….always carry blotting paper!
Cheers, Lisa

I wear vaseline on my lips ALWAYS and when I wear a matte lipstick, I can find it to be a bit drying. To combat this, I apply vaseline (not surprising) and wipe most of it off, then apply lipstick. This keeps my lips moisturized without compromising the matte look. Oh, and I love Mac’s “Flat Out Fabulous”!
🙂
Love your makeup posts! Here’s a list of my favorite summer lippies – some high end and some drugstore brands:
NARS Satin lip pencil in Luxembourg
BITE BEAUTY Matte lip pencil in Blood Orange
HOURGLASS in Riviera
MAYBELLINE Colour Elixir in Vision in Violet (040)
RIMMEL lasting finish by Kate matte lipstick in Rossetto (110)
REVLON Colorburst lipbutter in Wild Watermelon (063)
Enjoy!
My favourite summer lip colour would probably be Bite Beauty’s High Pigmented Pencils in any shade (I have the Pomegranate)! They provide a pigmented, matte look that is so bright and bold that I usually keep the rest of my look minimal. Picked it up at Sephora 🙂
Thanks to this post I’ve just fallen in love with MAC’s Flat Out Fabulous! Lipstick is definitely an easy way to amp up your look in the summer when you’re trying to keep your face as makeup-free as possible!
I’ve been on a Korean beauty kick lately and picked up Tony Moly’s Kiss Lover in matte red. It picks up as an orange red on me and it’s perfect lightly dabbed on for the office and a hearty swipe for happy hour afterwards!
Love all your bold lip choices for summer Coco! My fave summer lip is Melted Coral by Too Faced, its a highly pigmented liquid lipstick !
Flat out Fabulous all the way. I also worn it this past horrendous winter 🙂
I discovered MAC Mineralize Rich not too long ago and am totally in love with “Splurge’ – a darker rose pink but goes better with my colouring. Moisturizing and light.
I’m so glad summer is finally here ;).
To ensure my summer lips are looking smoochable, I’ll always put on the nuxe conditioning treatment at bed time. While getting ready, I’ll apply Chanel Rouge Coco Balm first then swipe Mac’s plink! over top. I’ll use a nude lip pencil for extra definition and the perfect pout is all mine!
I recently found out about Lime Crime’s Red Velvetine and Pink Velvetine which are amazing matte lipstains that are long-wearing and kiss proof, the red is a true red which I absolutely love and perfect for a date or a girls night out.
When it comes to something more subtle and everyday look, I like to use Sephora Collection’s Rose lip liner as my base and using Make Up Forever’s Rouge Artist Natural, N9 on top of the lip liner. It definitely suits my skin tone and gives me the summer glow.
I LOVE the MAC, Relentlessly REd. Red is my go-to colour year round, as it compliments my light skin tone and dark hair colour.
I also love this new shade from Mary Kay called “Sassy Fuschia”.
I’m obsessed with MAC Mineralize powder for my summer beauty look. I use it as a bronzer, and to highlight and contour. Its feels light on my skin, and does not clog pores. Awesome. I’m excited to try the Flat out Fabulous shade you have on. its looks fabulous on you
Love these! My go-to’s are Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Biscayne Park or Clinique Chubby Stick in Heaping Hazelnut. I have a tendency to stick with neutrals but I’m really feeling your picks Red Square and Plushest Punch!
Bobbi brown shimmer brick is my summer staple. For face eyes and cheeks it’s a great multi use product that lasts forever!
I’d love to try Relentlessly Red! I’m a new mom with a 9 month old, and haven’t worn lipstick in, well, 9 months. I need something new!
MAC’s Lady Danger all summer long and if I’m looking for a change from a red lip I turn to MAC Rebel! Clearly with these lipstick choices I have a thing for dangerously rebellious beauty choices.
My Favourite summer lip colour is “ALL FIRED UP” by MAC, this colour is so vibrant and has a matte finish. This lip colour is perfect from day to a night out.
I currently love Jubilee by MAC it’s a nude that’s great for darker skin tones. Awesome reviews. I look forward to trying out Clinique’s chubby stick.
Nars – must have Nars.
I like pinks for summer lipsticks.
Beauty Trick: Using Milk of Magnesia as a primer helps your skin stay matte, but not dry, during hot summer days
MAC Girl About Town lippy & lipglass combo 🙂
NARS larger than life lip gloss Annees Folles is a summer favorite right now!
I love the MAC Flat out fabulous on you!
My summer faves are MAC Candy Yum Yum and Ruby Woo. I am a sucker for a classic red. I also like mixing the two just to change it up sometimes. A little tip for summer as I do get oily is to brush on some blot powder before I put on my face and it keeps me not looking like I smeared oil all over my face. 🙂
