As KM so wisely noted, school or no school, September always seems like a second start to the year. A time for new beginnings, a restart or reset to all of those goals you set all those months ago in January. With Harlowe going to school for the first time, I have had a chance to experience those nerves of unfamiliar territory come rushing back as I send her off every morning. I’ve also felt the need to reevaluate some of those intentions I set (like running) and have been thinking a lot about getting back into the groove.
With back to school, fresh starts (and a kid that grows at the speed of light) sometimes new shoes are just the thing to get you in the groove. Heels are awesome, but when you’re running after a super speedy kid, I’m all about finding a way to make my sneaks, chic. For me, Nike Flyknits are it. Comfortable, cool with enough support to keep my feet in check, I’m in love. Plus the colour ways are always so fun.
For H, laces are still a challenge. I died when I saw these mini versions of the 70’s basketball shoe, the Adidas Originals Superstar Foundation. The throwback rubber shell toe, leather upper and comfy cushioning provided by EVA midsole – they had me (and H) at hello.
Finding not only the time to shop but also when shopping, a place that can kill two birds with one stone (shoes for both H and me in one shop?!) is a godsend. That’s why I love Sport Check. With a huge selection of sizes, brands and colours, we always find what we need without all of the stress so there’s more time to play.
And, after a few months of heavy rehab and loads of chill, I’m hitting the pavement again, slowly but surely, and stepping up my running game again. I’ve been giving these Adidas Ultra Boost’s a try and I’m really digging them. They’re light, stretchy but have a good amount of support, leaving me feeling confident in my stride.
