Makeup in the summer becomes a whole different challenge. It looks fresh at 8AM and by 3PM I’ve lost my second skin. If we look at the root of the problem, it’s the fact that my skin can’t make up its mind. That’s the most important element to understand when choosing your products. I’ve determined that my skin type is “combination”, so these are a few of my favourites that help my face stay on, especially in the sticky humidity.
Hylamide HA Blur
I love this product, and I found it at the perfect time- right before the 30+ weather arrived. I apply a dime size after my moisturizer and it makes my skin feel tight and fresh. It really does create a blur effect, that minimizes redness and evens out skin tone. When I went to the cottage for a weekend I literally just used this product and felt a lot more comfortable in my skin, than going bare face.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
I have a lot of acne scarring and this is my holy grail when trying to create a flawless finish. I’m interesting (in more ways than one!), and will apply this concealer after my HA Blur, then foundation and then re-touch my concealer if necessary. It’s typically foundation and then concealer, but hey! Figure out what works for you and do it.
Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer
An oldie, but goodie! This product has been a part of my routine since grade nine (Benefit’s doing something right)! I love applying bronzer everywhere, which is why I prefer matte over shimmer. Hoola is a natural bronze colour, that matches exceptionally well with my olive skin tone. I like using a large, fluffy, powder brush to apply, see my favourite here.
L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara
I’ve been blessed with a fine set of lashes, thick, long and blackest black. So much so that after applying two layers of this mascara I have strangers asking what I do to my lashes. The wand on this mascara is very thin and latches onto each lash as you apply. It lengthens significantly, and helps achieve a bold lash look within seconds. I used to spend $30+ on mascara and never got the results I get with this God sent L’Oreal product.

Glossier Lip Gloss
Last but not least, a glossy lip. Glossier has us covered in this department. I like a simple look, especially for my everyday summer routine. A little shine is all I need. This product is not sticky and keeps well, even after several sips of iced coffee. Feel the Vitamin E doing its job after one lip smack!
Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Setting Spray
I wish I could attach a video of me applying this product. I literally drown in it- forget three spritz, I typically apply anywhere from six to twelve sprays to ensure that this face is staying put. I mean it’s not perfect (nothing is), but I’d like to believe it does the job. Not sure if it’s more of a mind over matter thing, but if I ever forget to apply, I genuinely feel less complete.
