Over the past year, Briogeo has been a standout brand to us at The Cowe. It was the beautiful branding and effective product solutions for us. Then, the more we researched the brand, the more we loved everything about Nancy Twine, Founder & CEO of Briogeo.
Nancy Twine is the youngest African American woman to launch a product line at Sephora. This all-inclusive brand was rooted in “hair care for all- as it always should be”.
Since day one, Nancy immersed herself in core natural ingredients that result in gorgeous, healthy hair. In West Virginia, 5-year-old Nancy was her grandmother’s right hand, the town’s resident beauty guru, in making her coveted homemade hair care.
Believe it or not, Nancy’s “official” career started at Goldman Sachs in finance after making the move to NYC. Several years in, Nancy realized there was a major gap in the clean hair care space. Shortly after this realization, Nancy began experimenting with the creation of her own natural hair care products with any spare time she had. Her goal from day one was, “we should treat our hair the same way we treat our skin; by nurturing it with ingredients that detoxify, hydrate, and protect.” Amen to that sister!
New York played a large role inspiring Briogeo’s brand identity by incorporating the culture and core values of NYC which to Briogeo, reflect an appreciation for individuality, positivity and transparency. “That’s why we offer bespoke hair care regimens catering to the subtle nuances that make each of us unique.” says Nancy Twine. Us big haired beauties respect the hell out of Nancy’s purpose behind Briogeo.
“Brio” is an Italian word that means “vibrant and full of life” – representing not only the bustling city in which the brand was born, but the thoughtfully energetic and artistic packaging that houses each formula.
“Geo” is a Latin word meaning “of Earth and nature,” which represents the pure, yet potent, recipes of each formula.
Beyond that, Briogeo is “6-free hair care” meaning formulas are free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, DEA and synthetic colour. All products are 90 to 100 percent naturally derived and packaged in bottles that are both recycled and recyclable. Briogeo formulas are cruelty-free and mostly vegan and gluten free also- so much yes. Hero products across the board, even Allure said so (Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner, Allure Readers’ Choice Award Winners).
Briogeo’s numbers don’t lie, Nancy and her team went from zero to $10 million in sales in just four years, visit Forbes feature here for more!
This Summer (June 2020), Nancy opened up about how the obstacles of 2020 have dragged her into feeling some of her lowest lows. Allure shares feature, “Briogeo Founder Nancy Twine Shares How She’s Helping Herself Heal From Emotional Exhaustion” where Nancy gets vulnerable with her Briogeo community.
“I want to acknowledge that this past week has been one of the most challenging and painful weeks I’ve experienced in a long time. I know that this is the case for many of you, as well. As an ambitious founder & CEO, I tend to be a hyper-achiever and realized I wasn’t giving myself the compassion I needed this week when I found myself unable to focus or be as productive at work,” Nancy writes in the caption of an Instagram post. “I am still working on my own self-development, in several areas, but I wanted to come here to encourage you to allow yourself time to mourn, to heal, and to reflect while giving yourself compassion, love, and the space to do so.”
Nancy syas, “My bucket is nearing empty. I’m exhausted and emotionally drained. We all are.” Keep reading as Nancy’s hopefulness is felt, “At the same time, I know that for us to do the great work we are committed to do in the fight towards racial justice and to be there to support our friends and families, we need to slowly fill our buckets back up.”
We stand with you, Nancy! Cowes, get one step closer to filling your buckets back up this weekend and enjoy what makes you feel at peace, even if it’s just for a few moments.
