As you know I’ve been on a bit of a mission to find more “free from” and sustainable products that can fit into my lifestyle so when I discovered, Secret, the first deodorant that I ever used, now has an aluminum free product, I was excited! After seeing it at my local drug store I looked up the ingredients and Secret Aluminum Free Deodorant is free of not only aluminum but also parabens, dyes, talc and is certified cruelty- free by PETA. It also gives 48H superior, sweat-activate odour fighting protection, with 3x as many odour fighters as before. Impressive!
I have been using it for the last month and I really like it. All of the scents are really fresh but I’m a sucker for coconut so it’s my top choice. The lavender is delish too! Secret’s Aluminum Free Deodorant has a crazy good moisturizer in it and because of that it goes on smooth and doesn’t leave me itchy.
Because it is free of all of a lot of the ingredients that we’re used to and is a deodorant, it won’t block your glands from sweating – it’s not an antiperspirant. So, when switching from an antiperspirant, it’s important to take some steps to help prep your pits!
Here are some tips that I used to help me transition from an antiperspirant to a deodorant:
- Scrub: using an exfoliant scrub with charcoal is key to getting your armpits ready for a natural deodorant. It sloughs off the old skin and rids the area of any build up
- Stay Hydrated: water is so good for you regardless but staying hydrated through this process helps so much to flush toxins
- Mask: a clay mask on top of exfoliating is key. This mask is also a great way to unclog your pores and help speed up the process to get things moving naturally again
- Dry Off: make sure you dry off well after you shower. Toweling off really well before you apply deodorant is key
I can’t confirm these facts are based on science but I followed these steps and it worked for my pits!
It’s super cool that Secret has evolved with the times. I remember being so intrigued by deodorant when I was little and Harlowe is just the same. She always tries to put on my deodorant and though she doesn’t have to wear it just yet, I feel totally comfortable if she did. When she’s ready I feel super confident giving her this deodorant.
