We feel like every day should be International Women’s Day, do you agree or do you agree?
In any case, we will still celebrate any and every occasion to lift women up and #GiveBack to organizations whose purpose is to serve underrepresented women. This year, we’ve supported five organizations in honour of #IWD21. Wondering who to give to or how to contribute to something this #IWD? This IWD I teamed up with Plan Canada to understand more about the major setbacks taking place around girls’ rights and how it’s impacting their decision-making power on a global scale due to the pandemic. Because of all the losses in 2020, 11.2 MILLION girls and young women may not have access to education in 2021. Diamonds and Sweatshirts is donating $10 from each sweatshirt sold to Sistering, an organization we’ve always supported. If you’re not familiar with Sistering, it is a multi-service agency for at-risk, socially isolated women and trans people in Toronto who are homeless or precariously housed. The “First, But Not The Last” collection was released by female-owned and led biz, Diamonds and Sweatshirts in honour of International Women’s Day. This IWD, Roots collaborated with the talented, Emma Knight to create a limited-edition collection to illustrate powerful phrases that are in fact grammatically feminine to empower and amplify women’s voices. When Coco was young Femininity was all tied up in the idea that to be feminine was to be demure and restrictive, both literally and figuratively. As she’s gotten older, femininity means so much more. Femininity means strength under pressure, it means grace in place of being reactive, it means patience and understanding. Roots will also be partnering with Girls E-Mentorship (GEM), to provide mentorship to young girls this International Women’s Day. GEM is founded, led and made up of women who believe every girl deserves equal opportunity to develop professional skills, pursue higher education and build successful career paths.
