On today’s episode of #transformationtuesday, my bedroom! We changed the layout to expose the window rather than cover it, changed the floors, paint and modernized it overall. As you can see from the missing heat sensor and the hanging wires, we still suffer from leaks #homeownershiplife and she was built in the 20’s, but you get the gist. My favourite hotel in the world is the @bevhillshotel so when choosing something fun to cover the wall behind my bed I hunted down the print found adorning the hallways at the Pink Palace from @designerwallcoverings and @scapillatiandsons expertly installed it. He’s the best in the biz btw. My adult version of a princess bed is from @elte and the couch is from @cb2canada covered with H’s @hermes blanket (that was a gift) placed strategically to cover pink fingerprints created lovingly by her, of course 🥴 Happy Tuesday, friends 💗

Harlowe came home one day and dictated a story to us that she was working on for class.
When she was done Jimmy was crying his eyes out, trying to cover it up by clapping and laughing. He mouthed to me: “that was about us, she’s talking about us.” Later that night when I was putting H to bed I asked her about her story. I asked where she had gotten her inspiration and as Jimmy had suspected, her sweet story was inspired by our struggle to have a baby together. Though we have shielded her from most of what we’ve gone through, there have been moments, like emergency room visits, that she has been present for. Plus even when we think she isn’t listening, she always is. During Covid lockdown number 2, Jimmy and I made the tough decision to give up IVF. The strain on my body and mind was just too much and watching his heartbreak every month, added to the stress of living in a pandemic, we knew it would tear us apart. Though we haven’t decided on adoption and are happy with our blended family, Harlowe makes a beautiful case for it in her story. (I especially love how she changes my features to protect my identity 😊) Infertility is a very particular type of cruelty that I am so grateful is finally being addressed in public. To suffer this in silence and alone only exacerbates your feelings of failure. As #infertilityawarenessweek comes to a close I thank those of you who have shared your stories and as my lovely friend @lesliebangamba did so graciously for me, I hold space for all of you who are going through it right now or who have suffered alone in the past. I stand with you. You, my dears, are not alone. To my younger followers, I again implore you to stay on top of your Dr’s to make sure you know all about your reproductive health. Sadly, we still live in a time where it’s not a problem until it’s too late. Advocate for yourself. Sending all of the love. And Harlowe, you are my angel baby.

Thinking about my Dad tonight. Thinking of all tha

Thinking about my Dad tonight. Thinking of all that he’s had to stomach and shoulder and swallow. The jokes that he couldn’t laugh at, the ones that were at his expense. The places he wasn’t allowed into and the ones he was made to feel grateful to be accepted in. The countless times he was pulled over for no reason in our neighbourhood or on the way to put back together someone else’s child’s face in the middle of the night and even his hospital badge couldn’t protect him.
Thinking of all he protected us from. Thinking of his trauma, his PTSD, his feelings around the feelings he was never allowed to have and the words our generation has created to explain them. Thinking of how regardless he taught us pride; he taught us joy. Tonight I will go to sleep grateful that my father is still here and praying for the family of George Floyd. Tonight I will go to sleep broken that we are still here in a world that has spent far too long protecting a society and institution that believes that the lives of only the chosen should be served and protected. Tonight I will pray for all of the beautiful Black men that not only deserve protection but also the basic joy that so many so easily take for granted. 🖤 Rest easy, Mr Floyd. I love you, Dad. Thank you for all that you continue to do for all of us.
