Things have really turned around from the Valentin

Things have really turned around from the Valentine’s that you thought an 8 hour adventure on snowmobiles was the thing that would make me happy. You learned faster than me not to try to change me to better suit you. I will never be outdoor adventure seeking and you will never understand choosing movies that make you cry on purpose BUT the more we acquiesce to loving each other for who we are the more we end up actually loving each other. @sarablakely speaks beautifully on this. We did it by accident, by a way of making our relationship work out of frustration when (though we loved each other) we stumbled over and over again. I love you, bubs. I promise to continue to keep figuring out this crazy life with you 🤎 and the love notes were 👌🏽(the love movies must be wearing off on ya 😉)

This New Year brought me zero motivation to get mo

This New Year brought me zero motivation to get moving to a ‘new me’. In fact, getting me to move much was damn near impossible. This pandemic mess just hits me in a way that oftentimes has me sitting frozen, unable to do anything but work. Frustrated, but also not interested in disappointing myself from failing at a massive commitment, I just forced my self to do something small every day. Creating a mini habit, if you will. I started with 1000 skips and found that the roughly 11 minutes it took me to complete slowly inspired me to do a little more. To go for a walk, to hop into a virtual @onepeloton class or a @hotpilates @shannonnadj one. The mini habit, without pressure to do much more, led me to then, do more, which in turn made me feel better. What I didn’t know is that I was inadvertently practicing what is now known as Habit Stacking. I’ve since then read more deeply into this phenomenon and if you’re struggling to get motivation for anything you’re doing, check out the blog for more info and resources. As a competitive athlete at heart, there’s always a part of me that gets down on myself when I’m not performing physically where I used to be. @jsimsfit’s reminder to accept yourself where you are was part of the shift in thinking that I needed exactly when I heard it. So, if you need it too, here’s your reminder to be kind to yourself and take everything one day at a time. Like Jimmy’s favourite quote said famously by Desmond Tutu: “there is only one way to eat an elephant: a bite at a time.”
